Spotlight on the Duke:
A Retrospective Look at Big Jake

by: Carl Anthony

John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara in "Big Jake"

Here's a likeable western starring the very likeable John Wayne
as "Big Jake" himself. You might remember when Big Jake hit the
big screen in 1971, and some critics poking fun at the blood on Duke's
coat, referring to it as red paint, and so forth. Who cares?!?

Maybe Big Jake isn't a classic in the same vein, as let's say, Stagecoach
or The Searchers, but it's a cult-classic action yarn, nevertheless; and
the Duke is in fine form here, and at his raucous best!

Big Jake is a must-see, if only for it being the last movie Wayne made
with the voluptuous Maureen O'Hara......................................................
