"Border Feud"
Movie Review

Reviewed by: Bo Jaworsky

(1947) Lash LaRue, Al "Fuzzy" St. John, Gloria Marlen, Bob Duncan, Brad Slaven, Kenneth Farrell, Casey MacGregor, Mikel Conrad, Ed Cassidy, Ian Keith, Bud Osborne, Frank Ellis, Dick Cramer.

Gold crooks stir up a family feud in order to nab the rights to a nearby gold mine. Who's the brains behind the entire scheme? Lash steps in to crack the mystery, but finds his work raveled when the rival families raise the stakes and keep the tension running high. Predictably, Lash gets the job done and almost everyone goes home happy.
Lash LaRue appears as an anti-hero. A lot like Bogie, he wears black, speaks in a low-key manner, and carries a snidely tone. With a bullwhip affixed at the hip, Lash was the essence of early cool that would be echoed in the coming '50s.
Special mention goes to Al "Fuzzy" St. John, a sidekick to end all sidekicks. He's uproarious with his bow-legged walk and chomping mug to match. We suppose he helps Lash get out of the scrapes that develop, but sometimes we wonder if he just gets in the way!
