TOMBSTONE TRIBUTES

Chet Atkins
by: Doug Sanders

Influential, ground-breaking guitarist Chet Atkins not only played at the Grand Ole Opry, but lent his talents to Elvis Presley and the Everly Brothers on such hits as "Heartbreak Hotel", "Wake Up Little Susie", and "Bye Bye Love".  The youngest person to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Atkins managed to rake in 14 Grammy awards!  Although Atkins battled and beat cancer twice in the 1970s, the disease recently got the best of him at age 77.
