TOMBSTONE TRIBUTES

Jay Livingston
by: Sean Strebin

A prolific composer and lyricist, Livingston will probably be remembered best for the television themes to Bonanza and Mr. Ed.  The Oscar winner's career spanned nearly 50 years, penning songs for some of the greatest movies, including "The Paramount-Don't-Want-Me Blues" (Sunset Boulevard), "Buttons and  Bows" (Son of Paleface), and "Que Sera, Sera" (The Man Who Knew Too Much).

Composing with long-time collaborator, Ray Evans, Livingston wrote for numerous movies and television shows --- even The Bugs Bunny Show.  His music may also be heard in the Westerns, The Paleface, Streets of Laredo, Whispering Smith, Night of the Grizzly, Copper Canyon and Lawman (TV).

In recent years, Livingston was also responsible for the non-Westerns Hudson Hawk and The Godfather; Part III.
