This month’s list goes to the heart of one of the most important questions ever to come out of the West. Like the famous chicken-and-egg conundrum, “What came first, The Cowboy or the Cowgirl?” has puzzled buckaroos ever since they first traded in their good, old coonskin hats for Stetsons. Legend has it that Cowgirls have been around for a long time. research has shown that without Cowgirls there could never have been Cowbabies, and of course, eventually Cowboys and finally those old, fat guys with cigars, Cattlemen. This theory won unanimous approval from the entire Wildest Westerns staff (especially after meeting and interviewing our Cover Cowgirl, Ms. Rhonda Fleming), so this issue’s infamous list of ten is made up of Cowgirls—the Best of the West, and quite possibly, the First in the West.
10 Leading off is Gail Davis, TV’s Annie Oakley…………………
9 A classy gal from a classic Western — Jean Arthur………….
8 The Longbranch’s own Miss Kitty, Amanda Blake…………..
