The only Mexican actress ever nominated for an Academy® Award, Katy Jurado also appears on Wildest Western’s Top Ten list of celluloid Cowgirls. She starred opposite Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly in High Noon, played the wife of Spencer Tracy in Broken Lance (for which she received said nomination), starred with Marlon Brando and Karl Malden in One-Eyed Jacks, was featured with Elvis Presley in Stay Away, Joe and appeared in Sam Peckinpah’s Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
Once married to Ernest Borgnine who called her “beautiful, but a tiger,” Ms. Jurado enjoyed a career that spanned five decades. She died on July 5, 2002.
