GUNSMOKE
An American Institution
Book Signing at Dark Delicacies
Event Coverage by: Ed G. Lousararian

(Top) Editor Ed, Jim Byrnes, L.Q. Jones, author Ben Costello; (Seated) Gregg Palmer and Paul Picerni

Dark Delicacies, Burbank California—The staff of Wildest Westerns had a blast at the December 13, 2005 signing of Ben Costello’s new and definitive book Gunsmoke: An American Institution that celebrates the 50th Anniversary of television’s longest lasting series.

Fans that had missed author Costello’s signing at the Autry National Center the evening prior sought out this opportunity to get their books signed at Dark Delicacies. The fans were practically tearing the door off its hinges as they barrelled into the memorabilia-stocked store to meet Costello and special guests and Gunsmoke alumnae: actors Paul Picerni, L.Q. Jones, Gregg Palmer, lovely Gunsmoke expert Sandy Henry and series regular writer Jim Byrnes. As customers rushed the celebs, Big Gregg in a kidding manner told his old pal L.Q. to stop blocking his table from the host of adoring fans waiting to get his signature. Proprietors Del and Sue Howison were pleasantly surprised at the turnout, as they specialize in cult films and cater mostly to fans of science fiction and horror. But television’s Gunsmoke has a huge cult following itself, so the Western theme was served well at the shop.

Those who missed the Dark Delicacies event will have another shot at Costello (and other soon-to-be-announced guests) at an encore signing of Gunsmoke: An American Institution on March 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Currently available on hardback, the book sells for $75. Advanced copies may be ordered. Dark Delicacies is located at 4213 W. Burbank Blvd., Burbank, CA 91505, near the corner of Burbank Blvd. and Pass Ave. For more information on this coming event, visit darkdel@darkdel.com
