Roy Rogers was one of the most indestructible heroes that
American
society has ever embraced. It is no wonder that millions adore
"The King of the Cowboys!"
In the 1940s and 50s, Rogers' image was everywhere-- on lunch
boxes, comic books, cereal boxes, toy pistols, clothing... the list goes
on and on.
Roy Rogers made over 80 films and had a successful TV show on
the
main network in the 1950s which was in syndication through the 1960s.
Born Leonard Slye in Ohio in 1912, the son of a shoemaker,
Rogers
grew up "dirt poor," but in a close-knit family. When he moved to
