(1980) James and Stacy Keach, David, Robert and Keith Carradine, Randy and Dennis Quaid, Christopher and Nicholas Guest, Harry Carey, Jr., Kevin Brophy; Directed by Walter Hill; Color
This stylish adaptation of the Jesse James legend takes the unique tack as casting brothers in the roles of the historic outlaw families. James Keach plays a sinister, brooding Jesse, while older brother Stacy plays Frank James. The Carradines saddle up as the Younger brothers while Randy and Dennis Quaid play the Millers.
Beautifully photographed and with a stunning bottle-neck guitar soundtrack by Ry Cooder, this version retells the familiar tale of post-Civil War injustice foist upon the ex-rebels organized under Frank and Jesse. The rivalries between the families, a very nice performance as Cole Younger by David Carradine and a solid supporting cast move this violent tale along to its familiar climax as the evil railroads win again, but not until…………………………………………
