"The Man From Utah"
Movie Review

Reviewed by: Bo Jaworski

(1934) John Wayne, Polly Ann Young, George "Gabby" Hayes,
Yakima Canutt, Ed Peil,Sr., Anita Campillo, George Cleveland,
Lafe McKee, Earl Dwire, Artie Ortega.

An undercover deputy sheriff (John Wayne) enters a horserace to expose a gang of thieves making a racket out of the rodeo. This thin plot and less-than-modest budget lead to the sporadic use of stock footage, but the Duke had to start somewhere. Despite its shortcomings, The Man from Utah carries a certain punch and delights those desiring action.
Wayne is appealing with his wholesome, engaging smile and ruggedness which typifies the All-American cowpoke. Gabby Hayes as the Marshal (not yet the cantankerous, old sidekick fans would come to cherish), the ubiquitous Yakima Canutt and the ever-dependable George Cleveland help make a capable cast.
So saddle up, and watch the young emerging legend, John Wayne, whip into action.
