Walter Matthau

   Perhaps best known as The Odd Couple's Oscar Madison, Walter Matthau appeared in several Westerns early in his career including 1955's The Indian Fighter with Kirk Douglas and The Kentuckian with Burt Lancaster.  Matthau put out his best Western performance as the gum-chewing sheriff Morry Johnson who pursues Kirk Douglas in Lonely Are The Brave, the absolute best of the "new west" Westerns.
